The August Audit: Deciphering the ⚒️ System
With the fixture computer finally spitting out our unglamorous itinerary for the season, it’s time to lay down our definitive opponent guide before the transfer window slams shut and our squad depth dissolves into pure, unadulterated chaos.
To track our impending sense of doom over the next nine grueling months, we are introducing the official ⚒️ Difficulty Scale. The logic is simple: the more hammers a fixture has, the more mathematically obligated we are to leave with three points.
- ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️ (Absolute Must-Win): Anything less than three points here is a full-blown existential crisis. (Looking at you: Cardiff, Bolton, Charlton, and Lincoln).
- ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️ (Highly Winnable): Legitimate opportunities to build momentum, provided we don't actively beat ourselves (which, let's face it, is our default setting). (Watford, Swansea, Blackburn, Portsmouth, QPR).
- ⚒️⚒️⚒️ (The Chaotic Middle): A 90-minute coin toss against the division’s unpredictable belly. Expect drab 0-0 draws or ridiculous 4-3 thrillers. (Norwich, Millwall, Stoke, Derby, West Brom, Bristol City).
- ⚒️⚒️ (Genuinely Brutal): The promotion hunting pack. We will need a tactical masterclass and a refereeing miracle just to scrape a point. (Birmingham, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Wrexham, Southampton).
- ⚒️ (May God Have Mercy on Our Souls): Premier League squads in disguise. Absolute nightmare fixtures where survival is the only objective. (Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley).
Print it out, stick it on the fridge, and prepare your coping mechanisms. We’re going to need them.
